Abstract

The Public Sphere and the Question of Political Identity

Abstract

Apparent in contemporary literature devoted to the political philosophy, sociology and psychology is above all the emergent concept of “identity politics” – which means policy actions addressed to certain special minority groups, who still lack their political representation. Some political actions are supposed to support such a process through assisting them in reaching their separate identity. The author is trying to show, however, that especially in the philosophical analyses of contemporary politics it is worthwhile to come back to the classic concept of “political identity”, which becomes a current in the context of the processes of globalization and the new public sphere dominated by the Internet.

Keywords: public sphere, political identity, globalization, contemporary politics.
