Abstract

Abstract
Russell Kirk is one of the fathers of the twentieth century’s American conservatism. His view is connected with Burke’s conservatism and differs from the rational conservatism of E. Voegelin, L. Strauss, and H. Arendt. Despite of different starting
points, many diagnoses regarding contemporary political ideologies, moral status of democracy, and the collapse of higher education corresponded with Kirk and other conservatists. This article presents the main ideas of Kirk’s conservative thought.

Keywords: Russell Kirk, American conservatism, contemporary Burkean ideas, critique of contemporary totalitarianism, moral value of democracy, liberal education.
